Ankeny, IA
- - - Someday, Abigail Eoriatti may influence what you see on your evening news or even on the big screen in your local theatre. For
now, she'll have to settle for seeing her world through a smaller lens, that of her digital camera.
The sixteen-year-old plans to pursue a career in audio engineering after graduation and wants to be a producer for a television
or film studio. Eoriatti has gotten a jump-start on her future by enrolling in an art class at Ankeny High School where her photography
and paintings have earned her a distinction among her classmates.
"Art will always be in my life. I am taking pictures constantly and will continue to in the future," said Eoriatti.
Eoriatti is earning a distinction in her community as well. The Ankeny native's artwork has been selected to be on display at Veridian
Credit Union's Ankeny Main location as part of the ArtShare program. ArtShare is an award-winning program created by Veridian to give
artists like Eoriatti exposure in the community.
"[Having my artwork displayed] is great! There are so many talented artists at Ankeny High School, and to be chosen is really cool,"
said Eoriatti.
As part of the ArtShare program, students like Eoriatti are not only given the opportunity to see their works of art on display, they
are also given the chance to participate in a professional caliber art gallery premiere. On Thursday, January 14, Eoriatti's artwork, along
with more than 40 other original pieces, will be unveiled during the annual ArtShare Premiere. The pieces include digital photography,
drawings, paintings, pottery and even jewelry. The premiere, which is held in conjunction with an Ankeny Chamber Business After Hours
event, will include refreshments, door prizes, a program identifying the artists featured and a map of where to find each work of art on
display. Attendees will be able to roam the hallways and take in the artwork just as they would at any other gallery.
"This event is really about creating an atmosphere that is genuine. We want to give these students a true glimpse of what it's like to
be a professional artist," said Andrea Hudnut, who coordinates the event for Veridian.
The works of art will continue to be on display at Veridian Credit Union, 1201 S. Ankeny Boulevard, in Ankeny, through January 2011.
The public is invited to the premiere and to view the pieces anytime during regular business hours.
In addition to Eoriatti, Ankeny High School students featured in the premiere are: Julia Adler, Hallie Berg, Kaycee Brisby, Aunica
Buseman, Camille Butzen, Katie Cartagena, Stephen Catham, Matthew Chatman, Jordan Clark, Brianna Cochran, Jessica Curran, Hannah Davies,
