Identity Check
To comply with FFIEC (Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council) security guidelines, Veridian's Home Banking uses Identity Check, a process of Multi-factor Authentication.

With Identity Check, even if you are a victim of Internet fraud, you are still protected with this additional level of security. With Identity Check, if you fall for a phishing scheme and supply your username and password, the thief will not be able to access your account because of the Identity Check challenge questions.

Identity Check works by identifying a normal pattern of behavior. If you always access your Home Banking at the same time and from the same place, you probably won't notice a difference. However, if you access Home Banking at a different time, or from a different computer, your challenge questions will need to be answered.

Occasionally you will be prompted to answer a challenge question even within your normal pattern of behavior. The Identity Check challenge questions are things that only you or someone authorized on your account should know. Keep in mind, the answers to the questions do not need to be true, you simply need to know how you answered the questions.

Consider this example: a phisher in Australia is successful in obtaining your account number and password through a phishing email and Web site. When the phisher tries to enter your information to sign into Home Banking, the system recognizes that your account is being accessed outside your normal pattern of behavior and proceeds to ask the challenge questions. The additional layer of security provided by Identity Check will help prevent the thief from gaining access to your accounts.
