The Health Insurance Marketplace was established by the federal government in 2013 as a part of the Affordable Care Act. There are a variety of health insurance plans with different price points and levels of coverage.

 

Next, we’ll talk a little about how the Health Insurance Marketplace works, and how and when you can enroll.

 

Shop the Health Insurance Marketplace

 

The Health Insurance Marketplace^® gives you the ability to shop around for your health insurance options. Even if you already have coverage from your employer, you may be able to find insurance that:

 

• provides coverage that better suits you and your family
• provides similar coverage at a better price

This allows you to protect your family’s health your way and possibly save money throughout the year.

 

Open enrollment period

 

Each year, you have a limited amount of time to enroll in health insurance through the Marketplace. In all cases, open enrollment begins on November 1. But depending on where you live, the deadline may vary.

 

• Enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1 (Iowa and Nebraska)
• Enroll by December 18 for coverage that starts January 1 (Minnesota)
• Enroll by January 15 for coverage that starts February 1 (Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska)

Make sure you enroll before the correct deadline to avoid any gaps in your coverage.
