EMV is a new card technology where a microchip is embedded into the plastic of your card. This microchip holds encrypted information about the cardholder and payment that gets transferred during the transaction. This new technology is already standard in many countries outside of the U.S. because it makes it extremely difficult for cards to be copied or counterfeited.
What will change for Veridian members?
Veridian members will begin receiving chipped EMV cards with a brand new card design in 2016. In addition to the chip, your new card will also contain a traditional magstripe on the back for use at merchants that do not have upgraded terminals.
Your new card will still have the same benefits you've always enjoyed with your Veridian card, with the added security and peace of mind that comes with EMV technology. As always, you're protected by Visa's Zero Liability policy? on all Visa cards.
